Wilkinsburg School District Welcomes Interim Superintendent, Ms. Denise L. Sedlacek

The Wilkinsburg School District is pleased to welcome Ms. Denise L. Sedlacek as Interim Superintendent. With 40 years of experience in education—33 of them in Western Pennsylvania—Ms. Sedlacek brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the Wilkinsburg School District. She is eager to use her expertise to support Wilkinsburg's students, staff, and families.

Before retiring in November 2024, Ms. Sedlacek served 12 years as an assistant superintendent and director of human resources—five years in Plum Borough and seven years in Baldwin-Whitehall. Her career also includes leadership roles as Vice President of Education at Pressley Ridge, a program director, supervisor of secondary curriculum and instruction, and middle and high school principal. She began her career as a teacher and remains, at heart, an educator dedicated to student success.

During her tenure as assistant superintendent, Ms. Sedlacek helped her district achieve significant milestones, including recognition as a Digital Promise League of Innovative Schools member, a Google Reference District, a Common Sense Media District, and a Remake Learning District. She has also been actively involved in regional education initiatives, serving on committees and advisory boards such as the Southwestern PA Personalized Learning Steering Committee, the University Center for International Studies Advisory Board, and the Jefferson Regional Foundation Front Door Initiative.

Ms. Sedlacek's extensive experience and passion for education make her a valuable addition to the Wilkinsburg School District. We look forward to her leadership and the positive impact she will have on our school community.
