About Tuner Intermediate

Turner Intermediate School is for students in grades 2-6.  Our school is completely updated and hosts the newest technology, user-center designed furniture that helps optimize learning, and new equipment and resources that compliment student engagement.  The school boasts individualized attention with academic coaches for ELA and Math and each child receives a computer to use during the school year.

Some of the unique offerings in our school include:

    • BIZ TOWN – Junior Achievement Biz Town combines in-class learning with a day-long visit to a simulated town.  This popular learning experience allows elementary school students to operate banks, manage restaurants, write checks, and vote for mayor. The program is recommended for grades 4-6, with 12 teacher led sessions prior to a simulation experience.  Th culmination of the program is a 4-5 hour visit to a hands-on simulated community or a virtual simulation.
      • Students can connect the dots between what they learn in school and the real world. Following participation in the learning experience, students will be able to:
        • Discuss the roles they play as citizens, workers, and consumers in the community and relate those roles to the free enterprise system.
        • Discuss the importance of citizen rights and responsibilities in a community.
        • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the free enterprise system.
        • Build money management skills through a practical knowledge of economic concepts and banking practices.
        • Develop an understanding of basic business practices and responsibilities.
        • Display the soft skills necessary for successful participation in the world of work.
    • Our 5th and 6th grade students are introduced to the Pittsburgh Public Schools Magnet opportunities.
    • The school hosts a free after-school program where students receive tutoring, dinner, play, games and exercise.
    • Our Summer Enrichment Program is a 6-week, 4 days a week program where learning is enhanced and prepares students for the new school year.
    • Student Envoy Project with Pittsburgh Public Schools support focuses on mobilizing students directly, engaging them as active and essential partners in improving their academic performance and impacting classroom and school culture.
    • Students have the opportunity to participate in our Safety Patrop Program.
    • R.T.I.I. - TIER grouping is a three-level experience to ensure student needs are met in both ELA and Math.
    • Social Studies lessons will incorporate D.E.I./Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
