Turner Intermediate: 2nd Grade Art

Objective

 

Grade 2 aligns with the National and PDE Visual Art Standards. The art program provides a planned curriculum through project-based learning. Each project is centered around the elements and principles of art and design. The goal of this course is to provide a positive experience for all students while they enjoy, appreciate, and create art. Through a variety of art mediums students will be encouraged to express their ideas in creative and individual ways. Cross-curricular experiences are incorporated organically in the art room.

Production

       Brainstorm collaboratively through multiple approaches to an art or design problem (VA:Cr1.1.2)

       Experiment with various materials and tools to explore personal interests in a work of art or design. (VA:Cr2.1.2)

       Demonstrate safe procedures for using and cleaning art tools, equipment, and studio spaces. (VA:Cr2.2.2)

       Discuss and reflect with peers about choices made in creating artwork (VA:Cr3.1.2)

Critical Response

    Demonstrate knowledge of vertical, horizontal, and diagonal line and line-variety in art

    Mixed Media: Create a sculpture using recycled material(s)

    Study the basic history of printmaking to complete a monoprint

             Demonstrate knowledge of organic vs. geometric line and shape

             Mixed media: create a sculpture that demonstrates knowledge of clay-slab work

             Study overlapping in art to generate an artwork that shows depth

             Further explore the history and process of printmaking to create a repetitive print

       Demonstrate knowledge of space in art by creating a work that displays positive and negative space

       Study complex objects and deconstruct them into simple shape to develop observational drawing skills
