2nd Grade LIBRARY

Objective:

The objective of the Turner Intermediate Library classes is to foster and promote the love of reading for pleasure and information. The librarian will collaborate with grade level teachers and administrators to inspire lifelong learning as well as to strive to meet the needs of all students of different ethnicities, cultures and educational differences.

During the School Year We Will Learn How To:

Inquire

• Build new knowledge by inquiring, thinking critically, identifying problems, and developing strategies for solving problems.

Include

• Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to inclusiveness and respect for diversity in the learning community

Collaborate

• Work effectively with others to broaden perspectives and work toward common goals.

• Make meaning for oneself and others by collecting, organizing, and sharing resources of personal relevance.

• Discover and innovate in a growth mindset developed through experience and reflection.

• Demonstrate safe, legal, and ethical creating and sharing of knowledge products independently while engaging in a community of practice and an interconnected world.

What Children Will Do Throughout the School Year:

Possible outcomes by the end of the school year include:

• Recognize and locate fiction books in alphabetical order
• Recognize and locate non-fiction books according to the Dewey Decimal System
• Consult reference materials, including beginning dictionaries, to check and correct spelling
• Read, view, and listen to/for information presented in any format.
• Know and use various text features to locate key information in a text efficiently

3rd Grade Library

• Describe characters in a story and explain how their actions contribute to the sequence of events

• Make connections between the text of a story or drama and a visual or oral presentation of the text, identifying where each version reflects specific descriptions and directions in the text.
• With some guidance and support from adults, use technology, including the Internet, to produce and publish writing as well as to interact and collaborate with others
• Learn basic keyboarding
