Physical Education

2nd Grade Health/Physical Education

Objective: Health and Physical Education combine to provide students with a guide to lifetime wellness. This holistic approach encourages children to be active for their entire lives, create healthy habits and become good decision makers. The lessons in this class incorporate a wide variety of academic disciplines while remaining developmentally appropriate. Physical education at this level develops a student's motor function and spatial awareness to create a skilled and competent mover. Manipulative activities, sport specific skill work and locomotor practice provide the learner with the necessary building blocks to engage in higher level physical activities. Team building activities demonstrate the importance of working together to accomplish a goal.

During the School Year Students Will Learn:

Components of physical fitness

Engage in activities that demonstrate muscular strength, cardiovascular endurance, flexibility, body composition and muscular endurance

Sport specific skills

Play a variety of lead up games to master the skills needed to participate in team sports as the students get older

Teamwork

Participate in team building activities that promote working together to accomplish a goal

Health

Work to form healthy habits such as hygiene, decision making and good nutrition

Safety
